No.1 Birkbeck Gardens, Kirkby Stephen

A simple representation/sketch of the basic proposed garden changes.

no 1 birk 3

Description:

Flowing sinuous beds and borders of mixed planting (herbaceous perennials, ornamental grasses, bamboos, bulbs and some shrubs) and wide open grass area for access, with a ‘hidden’ corner entered via a metal arch entrance.

The areas denoted by letters A to D   would be planted up beds, the rest, edged in green,  grass/lawn. These areas to be delineated with the installation of Lakeland stone ‘tiles’ or setts. This will create neat, crisp permanent edges as well as providing a good mowing strip.

Lakeland stone 'tiles'

Lakeland stone ’tiles’ edging.

A bespoke metal arch would create the ‘portal’ into the partially hidden circular area.

Something along these lines.

Three Hydrangea petiolaris planted equidistant along the North facing boundary stone wall would be expected to cover a great deal of it within a few years from planting.

Two Climbing roses, ‘Maigold’ to be used on the garage walls.

Two Ceanothus thyrsiflorus on the Western wooden boundary fence.

Supporting wires would be needed for the Roses and Ceanothus’, but the Hydrangeas are self-clinging.
